Richard and Linda Thompson- Shoot Out The Lights

Weekly Review:

Many folks think Fleetwood Mac‘s 1977 album Rumors is the greatest breakup album of all time. I will always disagree with them. Richard and Linda Thompson‘s 1982 critically worshiped release “Shoot out the Lights” is by far the greatest testament to love lost and lovers scorned ever recorded. This album is the pain and anger of two exceptional musicians and songwriters ending their time together in a very public way. Even if you hate lyrics you should own this album as Richard (arguably the best living guitar player still touring) expresses much of his pain, desire, and heartbreak through his guitar strings. The fact that there is only a photo of Linda on the cover is very telling as by the time they were done making this album they could not even be together long enough to be photographed. How about the songs? I give you: Don’t Renege On Our Love, Walking on a Wire, A Man In Need, Just The Motion, Shoot Out The Lights, Back Street Slide, Did She Jump Or Was She Pushed, and ending with The Wall of Death. Not a weak cut on this one. The vocals, the songs, the guitar- all perfect. If you don’t own this album it was near impossible until this week to find a copy in the US, but lucky for us RHINO Records was able to finally get it back in print for a limited time. Get it while you can. In stock now for a measly $24. Five stars from me and everyone else who has ever heard this album. Sherman.

Ty Segall – Freedom’s Goblin(Poster, 2PC)

Weekly Review:

My Pick of the Week is from the shape shifting weirdo- Ty Segall‘s new project- Freedom Band- Freedom’s Goblin. Its chugging funk, its psych guitar freak-outs, it’s Devo-ish synth, it’s 2 LP’s of fun. Pick up your copy today. $18 for a double LP- what? In stock while supplies last. Sherman.
