Depeche Mode- Spirit

Weekly Review:

“I remember turning up my nose at Depeche Mode back in the 80’s because I had “musical blinders” on – heavy metal & nothing else mattered. Bad move.

Here’s a band that has stood the test of time and hasn’t compromised their sound in the process. If anything, their sound has evolved and avoids the staleness of mindless pop trappings.

This band has teeth, and the grit shows in this 14th studio album, “Spirit”. From the subject matter of the lyrics to the musical composition of each song, this album has a spirit of determination and soulfulness that transmits through the grooves.

Producer James Ford, whose work with Florence and the Machine, Arctic Monkeys and Simian Mobile Disco had impressed the group and helped the band make a cohesive album.

The album starts with the second of two singles, “Going Backwards” followed by the lead-off single, “Where’s The Revolution?”. Both tracks are worthy of single releases, yet the depth of the rest of the tracks make the album as a whole a worthy experience…and allows the spirit of Depeche Mode to endure.”
