Mixing Collins’ trademark emotional ballads alongside strong funk and R&B influences, the album’s hit singles – Sussudio, One More Night, Don’t Lose My Number and Take Me Home – would also become staples of his live set in the years that followed. This limited clear vinyl release is a part of Atlantic Records’ 75th Anniversary vinyl collection.

Phoebe Bridgers – Stranger In The Alps

PJ Harvey – I Inside The Old Year Dying

The story behind PJ Harvey’s tenth album goes back six years to the end of touring around her previous record The Hope Six Demolition Project, and Harvey’s keen feeling that somewhere in the endless grueling cycle of albums and shows, she had lost her connection with music itself. Eventually, she once again began to feel pulled in the direction of new songs, music, and sounds. The resulting body of work is audacious and original even by the standards of an artist who has always ensured that each phase of her progress has taken her somewhere new. Anchored by her nearly thirty-year creative partnership with her long-term musical associates John Parish and Flood, Harvey set out with an explicit mission: to avoid anything reminiscent of their musical past. She draws on the creative freedom she had felt in past musical work on soundtracks, and in the theater. Her perspective shifts away from the big themes of previous albums, towards something more intimate, eerie, and human. Meanwhile, her voice has become, if anything, a more intensely pure instrument over the years. With I Inside the Old Year Dying, Harvey builds a sonic universe somehow located in a space between life’s opposites, – between recent history and the ancient past. Scattered with biblical imagery and references to Shakespeare, all these distinctions ultimately dissolve into something profoundly uplifting and redemptive.

Sonny Clark – Sonny Clark Trio (Blue Note Tone Poet Series)

Other than Elvis, Carl, and Gene Vincent, not many rockabillies could claim a genuine national hit during the genre’s mid-’50s heyday-but Sanford Clark could. His low-key vocal on The Fool, supplied by Clark’s Phoenix, Arizona-based producer Lee Hazlewood, gave the deadpan lament precisely the feel that it required, Al Casey’s blistering lead guitar adding it’s snarling rockabilly edge. Once Dot Records picked up the master and it’s Elvis-like flip Lonesome For A Letter for national consumption and it hit big in 1956, Sanford found himself a sudden star, touring with Perkins and Vincent and churning out more rocking product for Dot. The Fool put Lee on the map as a producer, well before he masterminded the rise of Duane Eddy. Bear Family’s ‘Sanford Clark Rocks’ surveys the very best of Sanford’s Dot output-Usta Be My Baby, A Cheat (both the original Dot release and the snare drum overdub version), Ooo Baby, Love Charms, Lou Be Doo, an unissued-at-the-time Cross-Eyed Alley Cat. There’s also a motherlode of rarities!

Taylor Swift – Reputation (Picture Disc Vinyl)

Taylor Swift – Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) (Orchid Marbled Colored Vinyl, 3LP)

Double vinyl LP pressing. 2010 release, the third album from the Country/Pop superstar. Speak Now is the follow-up to her multi-million-selling 2008 album, Fearless. The 21-year-old singer/songwriter wrote the entire album on her own and co-produced with longtime collaborator Nathan Chapman, who worked with her on Fearless and her 2006 self-titled debut. Features the single ‘Mine’.

Tina Turner – Private Dancer

Tony Allen / Adrian Young – Jazz is Dead 018 (Indie Exclusive, Colored Vinyl, Brown)

As the drummer for Fela Kuti’s revolutionary Africa 70, Allen’s polyrhythmic drumming defined Afrobeat. His contributions as an artist and cultural ambassador left an indelible impact on every genre of popular music, from techno to rock and hip-hop. Tony Allen’s music stands as an ongoing testament to the interconnected musical relationships and dialogues across the African diaspora, and their lasting influence on how we listen. For Jazz Is Dead producer Adrian Younge, it is no small honour to share new music recorded with the drummer revolutionary Tony Allen.
