Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit- The Nashville Sound (indie only bonus music book edition- $22)
Weekly Review:
“I’ve been a fan of Jason Isbell since he was the slide guitar section of the Drive-By Trucker’s three guitar attack and was 1/3 of the best three songwriters ever to play together in a Rock band. It’s no surprise that I love his new album.
You might ask, “How good is Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit’s album The Nashville Sound?” Well for starters it’s the first album to go number one on each of the Rock, Country, Independent, and Folk album charts- all with little to no radio airplay. Is it Rock, is it Country, is it Folk? The answer is yes it is.
Jason Isbell is one of the best songwriters and guitar players working today, and since getting sober he has had a steady stream of incredible songs and albums. The Nashville Sound is just that- ten incredible songs stretching across love, loss, and where our country is now and where it is headed.
He has taken a lot of flak for his songs and his refusal to support a country music establishment that doesn’t support the individuals making real country music. In a recent Rolling Stone interview when asked about refusing to play at the CMA awards he said, “I don’t really get any shit from anybody. I own my record label. I have my own publishing. I do what I want.” We are lucky that this is true and I hope we have Jason and the 400 Unit around for many, many more albums.” Sherman
