Mac Miller – NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert (Blue Colored Vinyl)

Mac Miller’s Swimming marked a pivotal point in the late artist’s career. His devotion to constant sonic exploration and artistic reinvention had already been well-documented prior to the album’s release – the quantum leap from his Billboard chart-topping debut Blue Slide Park to his sophomore album Watching Movies with the Sound Off, his tour de force as a producer on his 2014 mixtape Faces and ability to direct a full band on 2016’s The Divine Feminine were evidence of his steadfast commitment to growth in his craft. Yet upon it’s release, Swimming was immediately understood by both his fans and critics alike as the high water mark of his career: an album that perfectly showcased the musical chops he had developed vocally and instrumentally over the course of a decade. This understanding was reinforced when, just 3 days after the album’s release, NPR Music published a Tiny Desk Concert where Miller and band performed album cuts “Small Worlds,” “What’s The Use?” featuring regular collaborator Thundercat and “2009” with a full band. The now-iconic performance remains one of the highest streamed performances in the history of NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series and is now available on vinyl for the first time.

Formed in the suburbs of Seattle, the dueling singers Johnny Whitney and Jordan Blilie along with Cody Votolato (guitar), Morgan Henderson (bass) and Mark Gajadhar (drums) crafted a unique style of convulsive, ground breaking hardcore that was quickly embraced by critics and fans of punk, hardcore and indie rock. Over their ten years in existence the quintet released five critically acclaimed studio albums including Burn, Piano Island, Burn, “the most prolific, beautiful, and vital statement of rock since the Stooges’ Raw Power” (PopMatters, 2003)

Mac Miller – Circles (Indie Exclusive, Silver Colored Vinyl)

Conceived as a sister album to 2018’s full length Swimming, the album was completed with the assistance of Jon Brion, with whom Miller worked on Swimming and had been working together on Circles at the time of his passing. While sonically distinctly different than it’s predecessor, Circles features many of the hallmarks for which Swimming was critically-acclaimed upon it’s release – Miller further realizing his singing voice in addition to rapping, live instrumentation and earnest, confessional lyrical content. Listeners will hear shades of some of the album’s influences in it’s songs, from the T-Rex guitar tone of “Surf” to the Plastic Ono Band-era John Lennon feel of it’s production and the inspired cover of Arthur Lee’s 1972 single “Everybody’s Gotta Live.” It’s a momentous final entry into the discography of an artist that remains at the center of reimagining the limits of rap.

Mac Miller – The Divine Feminine (Indie Exclusive, Light Blue Colored Vinyl)

The Devine Femenine is an album about women and for women. It features guest appearances from Kendrick Lamar, CeeLo Green, Anderson Paak and Ariana Grande, among others. Includes the singles ‘Dang!’ (produced by Pomo) and ‘We’ (produced by Frank Dukes).

Mac Miller – GO:OD AM (Indie Exclusive, Green Colored Vinyl)

Mac Miller’s “GO:OD AM” is a captivating journey through the tumultuous mind of an artist finding his way. Released in 2015, it’s a poignant reflection on life’s ups and downs. Miller’s lyrical prowess shines as he explores themes of addiction, self-discovery, and redemption. Tracks like “100 Grandkids” and “Weekend” blend catchy hooks with introspective verses, while “ROS” and “Perfect Circle / God Speed” reveal the vulnerability behind the bravado. The production is rich and eclectic, with lush instrumentals that complement Miller’s introspection. “GO:OD AM” is a testament to Mac Miller’s growth as an artist, making it an essential piece of his legacy.

Mac Miller – Swimming (Deluxe Anniversary Edition)

Mac Miller’s Swimming marked a pivotal point in the late artist’s career. His devotion to constant sonic exploration and artistic reinvention had already been well-documented prior to the album’s release – the quantum leap from his Billboard chart-topping debut Blue Slide Parkto his sophomore album Watching Movies with the Sound Off, his tour de force as a producer on his 2014 mixtape Faces and ability to direct a full band on 2016’s The Divine Feminine were evidence of his steadfast commitment to growth in his craft. Yet upon it’s release, Swimming was immediately understood by both his fans and critics alike as the high water mark of his career: an album that perfectly showcased the musical chops he had developed vocally and instrumentally over the course of a decade. The album has stood the test of time as one of his greatest musical statements.

“Back in the USA” by MC5 is a high-voltage rock ‘n’ roll experience that’s a shot of adrenaline straight to the heart. This album is a relentless burst of energy, a sonic rebellion against the norm. With fierce guitars and politically charged lyrics, MC5 delivers a raw and rebellious sound that’s impossible to ignore. The tracks are like a musical call to arms, embracing the spirit of the ’60s counterculture. From the anthemic “Kick Out the Jams” to the garage-rock attitude of “High School,” it’s a wild ride from start to finish. “Back in the USA” is a timeless classic that still packs a punch today.

MC5 – Kick Out The Jams (Rocktober, Clear w/ Red Splatter Vinyl, Brick & Mortar Exclusive)

MC5’s “Kick Out the Jams” isn’t just an album; it’s a sonic revolution that shook the very foundations of rock ‘n’ roll. Released in 1969, this masterpiece of rebellion and raw energy is a testament to the power of counterculture. The title track, an anarchic anthem, ignites the album with incendiary fervor. Guitarist Wayne Kramer’s ferocious riffs and Rob Tyner’s soul-shaking vocals are nothing short of legendary. MC5 blurs the lines between punk, garage, and rock, crafting a defiant sound that challenges conformity. “Kick Out the Jams” remains a timeless call to arms, urging us to question and rebel.

The Talking Heads – Little Creatures (Rocktober, Blue Colored Vinyl, Rocktober Brick & Mortar Exclusive)

Talking Heads’ “Little Creatures,” released in 1985, is a charming departure from their earlier avant-garde sound. The album radiates quirky, upbeat pop-rock with infectious rhythms and David Byrne’s distinctive vocals. Tracks like “And She Was” and “Road to Nowhere” are instant classics, featuring clever lyrics and catchy melodies. The band’s experimentation with Americana and folk influences yields a refreshing sonic palette. “Little Creatures” showcases Talking Heads at their most accessible, proving their versatility as musical chameleons. While it may not be as groundbreaking as some of their previous work, it’s an enjoyable, toe-tapping adventure that solidified their place in the pop pantheon.

The Talking Heads – True Stories (Red Colored Vinyl, Rocktober Brick & Mortar Exclusive)

True Stories, originally released in 1986 includes “Wild Wild Life” and “Love For Sale”. This is the soundtrack to the David Byrne movie “True Stories”.

Taylor Swift – Folklore (Colored Vinyl, Beige, Gatefold LP Jacket)

Timber Timbre – Lovage

New album by Taylor Kirk, Toronto, Canada based musician who has happily worked as a producer since the last album (2017). Now with “Lovage” there is new music of his own, which proves that Kirk has not only refined his working methods, but also skillfully combines different influences. Kirk developed “Lovage” in close collaboration with Michael Dubue at the producer’s studio in Quyon, Quebec. Working together proved so fruitful that Dubue quickly joined the collective as keyboardist and vocalist, while Adam Bradley Schreiber completed the current line-up on drums and percussion. Together they harmonize the varied sound palette of Brian Wilson with the special melancholy of Leonard Cohen, but also Sun Ra, Dorothy Ashby and Alice Coltrane, as well as Italian singers like Pino Daniele and Paolo Conte, played a major role in it’s creation, which might explain the new album’s cinematic lightness. “Brian Wilson and Leonard Cohen are among many influences that have come to embody what music is to me,” Kirk elaborates. The electronic elements and vintage synths that characterized the previous album also return on “Lovage”, albeit with a more subtle touch. The tongue-in-cheek Timber Timbre humor mixed with the snarky, social commentary is particularly evident on album opener “Ask The Community,” which the band is already sharing. “I have always been an introverted person, if not a little antisocial,” explains Kirk. “And recently it occurred to me that if for some reason you wanted to see a dead body, you can simply ask the community.

TLC – Ooooooohhh…On The TLC Tip (150 Gram Vinyl, Download Insert)

Tom Waits – Black Rider (180g)

2023 Marks 30 years since Tom Waits released The Black Rider. Originally released in 1993 on Island Records, The Black Rider is Tom Waits’ 12th studio album. The Black Rider is a musical comedy/horror collaboration between artists: Robert Wilson (director/designer) writer/Beat guru, William S. Burroughs (text) and Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan (music). Not a cast album, this Island Records release is Tom’s interpretation and performance of the songs he had originally created for the stage production of The Black Rider. The music is a Waitsian concoction of pop, vaudeville, rock, cabaret and blues – a brew that is strangely familiar yet absolutely fresh.

The unlikely source material is rooted in German Romantic literature and the Weber opera, “Der Freischutz” (although Waits’ music does not quote from the Weber score), The story concerns a marksman who makes a pact with the devil (in the guise of a shadowy horseman) in order to win a shooting contest and hence claim his bride.

A cross between the musical, Cabaret and The Threepenny Opera, The Black Rider is brimming with the sort of inspired originality that can only flow from the mind of Tom Waits.

The album is newly remastered for the first time ever from the original ½” flat master tape and personally overseen by Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan. Mastered by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering under the guidance of Waits’ longtime audio engineer, Karl Derfler. The album packaging has also been restored. The Black Rider includes tracks such as “November,” “Russian Dance” and “The Briar And The Rose.” Available on 180g black vinyl.

Tom Waits – Bone Machine (180g)

Originally released in 1992 on Island Records, Bone Machine is Tom Waits’ 11th studio album. 5 years after Franks Wild Years, Bone Machine is a return to studio albums for Tom Waits. The album features David Hidalgo, Les Claypool, Brain and Keith Richards and won a GRAMMY for Best Alternative Music Album.

Bone Machine is rather pointedly otherworldly… another edge pusher – his most poetically and sonically daring work yet. Writing again with his longtime collaborator and wife, Kathleen Brennan, Waits acknowledges writing ‘darker’ material saying “A great many songs live there, so that’s where I’ve been digging lately.”

Waits calls the songs on Bone Machine “little movies for the ears.” He sometimes wrote them entirely from a percussion pattern—which he played on array of largely homemade instruments. One, the “conundrum,” was rusted pieces of farm equipment hung from a large iron crucifix. As Waits explained at the time, “I have a lot of very strong rhythmic impulses, but this is not my world. I just pick something up and I hit it, and if I like the sound, it goes on. Sometimes my idiot approach serves the music.”

Mortality is a recurrent theme, from “Dirt In The Ground” (“We’re all gonna be. . .”) to “All Stripped Down,” “The Ocean Doesn’t Want Me” (a tale of contemplated suicide), “Jesus Gonna Be Here,” the rambunctious paean to childhood, “I Don’t Wanna Grow Up,” and certainly the broken-hearted, confessional classic Waits ballad, “Whistle Down The Wind.” Waits explained at the time: “Yeah, ultimately, it will be a subject that you deal with. Some deal with it earlier than others, but it will be dealt with. Eventually we’ll all have to line up and kiss the devil’s arse.” Yet the album actually ends upliftingly, with “That Feel” co-written with Keith Richards.

Newly remastered for the first time ever from the original ½” flat master tape and personally overseen by Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan. Mastered by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering under the guidance of Waits’ longtime audio engineer, Karl Derfler. The album packaging has also been restored. Bone Machine includes tracks such as “Goin’ Out West,” “I Don’t Wanna Grow Up” and “Jesus Gonna Be Here.”
