Donald Byrd – Byrd Blows On Beacon Hill (Blue Note Tone Poet Series)
Vinyl LP pressing. Recorded in 1956 for producer Tom Wilson’s short-lived Boston-based label Transition Records, Byrd Blows On Beacon Hill presented trumpeter Donald Byrd in a relaxed and intimate quartet setting with his frequent collaborator Doug Watkins on bass along with Boston area musicians Ray Santisi on piano and Jim Zitano on drums. The standards heavy set was captured on a rainy Spring afternoon in the Beacon Hill home of engineer Steve Fassett which provided a casual atmosphere that gave the album both it’s title and it’s easy-going charm. Byrd is at his lyrical best on Joe Sullivan’s tune “Little Rock Getaway” as well versions of “Polka Dots and Moonbeams,” “If I Love Again,” and “Stella by Starlight.” The trumpeter lays out to let the trio shine on “People Will Say We’re in Love” and “What’s New.”
The Eagles – Greatest Hits Vol. 2 (180 Gram Vinyl, Brick & Mortar Exclusive)
Eagles Greatest Hits Volume 2 is the second compilation album by the Eagles. It features many of their biggest hits not on Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975), including “Hotel California”, their signature song. The album was released in 1982, after the band’s breakup. That same year, Don Henley and Glenn Frey both released their debut solo albums.
The compilation features eight combined tracks from Hotel California and The Long Run. Also included is “After the Thrill Is Gone”, an album track from One of These Nights. (That song, with its title that summed up the state of the band at the time, was strategically placed as the last track on Eagles Greatest Hits Volume 2.)
Joy Division – Love Will Tear Us Apart (Glow in the Dark Colored Vinyl)
Highly collectible GLOW IN THE DARK 12″ vinyl of the unique Martin Hannett sessions with groundbreaking gothic/post-punk band, Joy Division! Includes the band’s best known composition “Love Will Tear Us Apart” and a superb non-album B-side in “Leaders Of Men” plus an extended mix of the A-side!
Kraftwerk – Kraftwerk
The legendary first album from Kraftwerk – a groundbreaking set recorded when the group was more of a proggish outfit, and still yet to make their mark in the world of electronics! As with early work by Cluster, the instrumentation here is often from more conventional rock sources, but really abstracted through the production work of Connie Plank. Flute, violin, organ, and drums resonate with a new sort of intensity here – stretched out over long tracks and mixed up so that their sounds take on different shapes and textures.
Selena – Amor Prohibido (30th Anniversary Edition, Clear Vinyl, Remastered, Gatefold LP Jacket)
Three decades ago, Selena Quintanilla’s iconic and chart-topping album ‘Amor Prohibido’ made history by being the first Tejano album to reach #1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Album Chart. This achievement gifted Selena the recognition of becoming the second female Latin artist in history to top the chart, while simultaneously being the first female Latin artist in history to chart a “non-crossover” recording on the Billboard 200. To celebrate the anniversary, the album has been newly remixed and remastered. This marks the first time the album will be available on vinyl. The LP is pressed on transparent clear vinyl in gatefold jacket.
Wayne Shorter – Odyssey Of Iska (Blue Note Tone Poet Series)
Vinyl LP pressing. The winds of change were blowing through Wayne Shorter’s life and career in 1970. The saxophonist had just left Miles Davis’ group and was soon to form his collective fusion band Weather Report. His music was evolving too as he began to delve into his own unique fusion explorations on his previous two Blue Note recordings Super Nova and Moto Grosso Feio. Recorded in August 1970, the mesmerizing Odyssey of Iska would be the last release of Shorter’s early Blue Note period. The album was a tribute to his daughter Iska-who had been born the year before with severe brain damage-with four immersive Shorter compositions portraying a variety of moods: “Wind,” “Storm,” “Calm,” and “Joy.” The album’s centerpiece is an extended version of Bobby Thomas’ Brazilian influenced piece “De Pois do Amor, o Vazio” (After Love, Emptiness), foreshadowing Shorter’s growing interest in Brazilian music which he would explore further in the years to come. Shorter’s soprano and tenor saxophones are the lone horns heard on the album which featured Gene Bertoncini on guitar, David Friedman on vibraphone and marimba, Ron Carter and Cecil McBee on bass, and Alphonse Mouzon, Billy Hart, and Frank Cuomo contributing drums and percussion.
Yes – The Yes Album (Steven Wilson Mix) (Blue Colored Vinyl, Brick & Mortar Exclusive)
Yes’s breakthrough third album and Platinum classic marked Steve Howe’s debut with the breathtaking ‘Clap’ and finds the band discovering their trademark sound. Widely acclaimed, it has received rave reviews from Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Q and many other publications. It reached #4 in the U.K. and the Top 40 in the United States. The Yes Album is included on Q’s list of the “100 Greatest British Albums of All Time.”
