Weekly Review:
Former member and lead guitarist of Kiss, Ace Frehley left the band he had spent nearly 10 years in, proving he was formidable force, as evidenced in the sales of his “solo” album, “KISS: Ace Frehley” – it had out-sold the others’ and was the most popular among fans. In 1987, he formed Frehley’s Comet and was determined to prove to the world he was a “Rock Soldier”.
The first track is called “Rock Soldiers”, and tells the auto-biographical tale of Ace beating that old demon-alcohol. The big single, “Into The Night”, was penned by Russ Ballard, who also penned the 1978 hit for Ace, “New York Groove”. This album is a straight-ahead, hard rock tour de force, with Anton Fig pounding the drums, John Regan on bass, and Tod Howarth sharing guitar & vocal duties.
This is a great rock album to be featured in this month’s “Rocktober” releases. It has sing-a-long rock anthems, blistering guitar solos, and Ace’s signature sense of humor – ACK!
