New Arrivals:

Chappell Roan – The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess

(Anniversary Limited Edition, My Kink Is Coral Peach Colored Vinyl, 2LP 180 Gram Vinyl)

Bold pop hooks, sex positivity, honest songwriting and a heavy dose of glitter make up the world of Chappell Roan, the next multi-faceted force in pop music. A technicolor celebration of self-discovery and transformation, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess tracks Chappell’s cinematic journey of falling in queer love for the first time, while embracing all the messy and imperfect moments in-between. Penned by Chappell Roan alongside Dan Nigro. Limited double 180gm LP pressing housed in gatefold jacket with embossed die-cut O-card and Mylar glitter star inserts.

Bright Eyes – Five Dice, All Threes (Red, Orange Colored Vinyl)

Five Dice, All Threes is a record of uncommon intensity and tenderness, communal exorcism and personal excavation. These are, of course, qualities that fans have come to expect from Bright Eyes, nearly three decades into their career. The tight-knit band of Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis, and Nate Walcott tends to operate in distinct sweeping movements: each unique in it’s sound and story but unified by a sense of ambition and ever-growing emotional stakes. Even with this rich history behind them, these new songs exude a visceral thrill like nothing they have attempted before. Oberst has always sung in a voice that conveys a sense of life-or-death gravity. At times throughout Five Dice, All Threes, you may feel worried for him; other times, he may seem like the only one with the clarity to get us out of this mess. On the self-produced album, Bright Eyes embrace the elusive quality that has made them so enduring and influential across generations and genres, bringing their homespun sound from an Omaha bedroom to devoted audiences around the world. In Oberst’s songwriting lies a promise that our loneliest thoughts and feelings can take on grander shapes when passed between friends, blasted through speakers, or shouted among crowds. This time around, the band invites such like-minded voices onto the record with them, with notable guest appearances from Cat Power (“All Threes”), The National’s Matt Berninger (“The Time I Have Left”), and Alex Levine, the frontman of the New York punk band The So So Glos, who co-wrote several songs and shares a climactic verse in the surging “Rainbow Overpass.”

Butthole Surfers – Hairway To Steven

The second part of Matador’s reissues of the essential early records by Texas’s Butthole Surfers continues with 1988’s ‘Hairway to Steven.’ The period during which these records were first issued parallels the Buttholes’ transition from being weirdo Texas outcasts to becoming internationally recognized smut-kings of the American underground. In 1985 they were still the sole province of hallucingen-soaked punk rock freaks. By 1988 they had toured Europe, had records licensed internationally, and bought a house in Driftwood Texas to serve as their home base. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. ‘Hairway to Steven’ is a blast, ranging from the blood-smeared guitar-overload of “Jimi” to the acoustic guitar-based sing-along sweetness of “I Saw an X-Ray of a Girl Passing Gas” to the Fugs-like ranting of “John E. Smokes.” Yet somehow, the album managed to get the straight media to actually notice. For all its strangeness, ‘Hairway’ got rave notices in places that had never paid the band any attention previously. It was the Buttholes’ last album of the ‘80s and marks the beginning of their ascendance into something akin to commercial success. Not that the band actually imagined anything at all like that occurring.

The Get Up Kids. – Something to Write Home About

(25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition, Bonus Tracks, Silver Colored Vinyl)

After 25 years, The Get Up Kids’ classic second album, Something to Write Home About, is still recognizable as the same electrifying, scrappy album it was upon release, but also transformed by time into one of the most seminal records of the band’s scene. To celebrate the album’s 25th anniversary, Polyvinyl Records is thrilled to announce a special deluxe reissue. The album has been meticulously remastered from the original tapes and will be paired with a slew of bonus material, including rare demo versions of multiple songs from the album as well as never-before released rarities from the era. Originally released in September of 1999, Something to Write Home About has been established as an important late-millennium rock-and-roll document; a convergence of power pop, alternative rock, and punk, it provided the parameters for emo’s Midwest-centered second wave.

Perfume Genius – Too Bright (Clear Vinyl)

Reissued on crystal clear vinyl for the 10th anniversary this September, ‘Too Bright,’ remains an early standout of Perfume Genius’s (Mike Hadreas) unparalleled oeuvre

Phish – Hoist (Laser Beams) (Brick & Mortar Exclusive)

Hoist is the fifth studio album by the American rock band Phish, origially released on March 29, 1994, by Elektra Records. At the time of its release, Hoist was Phish’s best selling album to date, peaking at No. 34 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. On April 16, 2016 Record Store Day, Phish and JEMP Records will release Hoist, the band’s fifth full-length studio album – for the first time on vinyl. The limited edition 2-LP vinyl set is 10,000 numbered copies. Hoist was recorded and mixed in 1993 by Ed Thacker and produced by Paul Fox, who incorporated guests and even some live tracks into the production. Elektra released Hoist March 29, 1994 on CD and cassette. In 2015, Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering cut the lacquers from 1/2″ flat masters.

Sade – Love Deluxe

Love Deluxe (1992) is Sade’s fourth album, featuring the singles “No Ordinary Love”, “Feel No Pain”, “Kiss Of Life”, and “Cherish The Day.” The album was recorded at Studio Condulmer (Italy), Ridge Farm (England), The Hit Factory (England), and Image Recording (USA). The vinyl audio uses high resolution digital transfers of the stereo master mixes, from the original studio recordings, remastered at half-speed at Abbey Road Studios. The elaborate, half-speed mastering process has produced exceptionally clean and detailed audio whilst remaining faithful to the band’s intended sound. No additional digital limiting was used in the mastering process, so the album benefits from the advantage of extra clarity and pure fidelity, preserving the dynamic range of the original mixes. The original album sleeve and packaging elements have been meticulously reproduced in exact detail with authentic paper and printing methods.

Lovers Rock (2000) is Sade’s fifth album, featuring the singles “By Your Side” and “King Of Sorrow.” The album was recorded at Sarm Hook End (England), El Cortijo (Spain), and Deliverance Studios (England). Various Artists – Ghost World (Original Soundtrack)

Original Sound Track recording from the acclaimed motion picture Ghost World. The movie is the raw-edged tale of two teenage girls who are out of sync with the world around them and stars Scarlett Johannson and Thora Burch who are pictured on the cover of the LP. The sound track is a fascinating mix-ture of atmospheric blues, vintage jazz, calypso, rock, ragtime, Indian film music and more.

X-Ray Spex – Live At The Roxy Club

X-Ray Spex recorded live at London’s legendary Roxy Club on April 2, 1977 just five short months before the release of their iconic debut single, call to liberation, prototypic “Oh Bondage, Up Yours!” Remastered audio and reimagined artwork plus exclusive sleeve notes from original pioneering saxophonist Lora Logic.

Floating Points – Cascade (Indie Exclusive, 140 Gram Vinyl, Gatefold LP Jacket, Digital Download Card)

Cascade is some of Floating Points’ finest work. Mesmerizing, woozy, and propulsive, these tracks morph from glitched out moodpieces to an irresistible call to the dancefloor. Drawing inspiration from both the starkness and beauty of the California desert and an adolescence spent in Manchester, a city legendary for both post-punk and electronic genres, this is the type of electronic music that taps into something deep within the soul and won’t let go. Cascade is powerful, seductive, and a pure pleasure.
