Tomorrow is Black Friday, and unlike Blue Monday, I won’t tell you how you should feel, but I will give you a glimpse into some of the records you should be thinking of as you shop.
Lizzo – Coconut Oil EP:
If you need a little self care in your life then Lizzo’s first EP Coconut Oil has what you need. Released for the first time on vinyl, this six song EP is pressed on milky white vinyl with a coconut-scented insert. Treat yourself, you deserve it!
Lisa Loeb – Stay (I Missed You) 12″ Vinyl:
The fact that this song is 25 years old blows my mind. Originally on the Reality Bites soundtrack, this song was the first song ever to hit #1 on the U.S. charts by an unsigned artist. She ended up on the album because of her neighbor, Ethan Hawke found out about the song and sent it to Ben Stiller, who directed Reality Bites… Hawke went on to direct the music video. Can’t make this stuff up.
Pearl Jam – MTV Unplugged (3/16/1992):
Not long after their first U.S. tour, Pearl Jam stopped off in NYC to do Saturday Night Live and record on MTV Unplugged. This took place before anyone ever dreamed that their album, Ten, would ever go on to be 13x platinum.  Seven tracks in total, with Alive, Jeremy and Even Flow being the largest hits recorded that day.
Nas – Stillmatic:
Originally released in 2001, Stillmatic (a nod to his debut album Illmatic) is Nas at his finest. Unless you picked up a copy on wax the year it came out, this hard to find gem is a must have for any hip hop fan. With tracks like “Got Yourself a Gun” and “One Mic” this is an album that you will find coming back to again and again. Enjoy it with remastered audio on silver vinyl.
Squirrel Nut Zippers – Christmas Caravan:
If you don’t know much about the Squirrel Nut Zippers, that’s ok. They burned up the charts with their song “Hell”  off their album “Hot” and then cooled off (though I would say some of their later stuff is as good if not better than Hot). Enjoying the “Hot” hype, SNZ made a 10 song Christmas album that will have your toe tapping faster than Grandpa can say Mistletoe. Roots jazz with a Billie Holiday vibe, it’s for those days when you just can’t listen to “All I Want for Christmas” any more. -Brad Simmons
Be sure to check out these (and so many more) when you swing by tomorrow. Doors open at 7. See you in line!
