Chris Hazelton’s Boogaloo Seven- Soul Jazz Fridays
Weekly Review:
“I’ve never been to the Green Lady Lounge at 1809 Grand here in Kansas City, yet maybe I should after listening to “Soul Jazz Fridays” by Chris Hazelton’s Boogaloo Seven. This album was captured live on October 25th, 2015 at the local venue, and was released on Sunflower Soul Records late in 2016. If the crowd reactions don’t convince you that a Friday night visit to Green Lady Lounge is in order, the performances on this album will!
Consisting of three original tunes and three covers, “Soul Jazz Fridays” has just the right mixture of groove, upbeat funk, and in-the-pocket instrumental harmony. Chris Hazelton’s Hammond B-3 organ is accompanied by Nick Howell on trumpet, Nick Rowland on saxophone, Brett Jackson on baritone sax, Matt Hopper on guitar, Danny Rojas on drums, and Pat Conway on percussion. They fill up the speakers with a consistent vibe of strong melodies and showcased solos. This recording shines yet another spotlight on the strength of Kansas City’s legacy of great jazz and gives you a front-row seat at your turntable. You would be amiss to pass this jewel up.”

Myco- Myco (with DD)
Weekly Review:
“Kansas City is vibrant with musical talent, and The Vinyl Underground at 7th Heaven likes to showcase this talent. Local band Myco released a stunner late last year that visits this reviewer’s turntable frequently. From the colorful artwork on the album cover to the colorful sounds within the record grooves, the band keeps you guessing. The music hearkens shades of Depeche Mode, Pink Floyd, Brian Eno, yet is unique in its texture. The songs are all somewhat psychedelic in nature, and the keys provide a space-age prog element that floats in and out of the melodies.
The album consists of only 5 songs, but they are well-crafted and travel well…especially the last track, “Need Some Space” – a nine minute instrumental album closer that leaves you saying “wait-a-minute…I want more!” Hopefully after some live support and word-of-mouth, this band will be releasing a follow-up.
Speaking of travelling well, with every purchase of the album you get a free download code compliments of cdbaby.com. Believe me, you won’t regret this trip with Myco.”
